The current generation of the INFINITI Q50 has been with us since 2014, and in March we got our first look at its refreshed design when it debuted at the Geneva Motor Show. Now, we get to see it in the flesh. The 2018 INFINITI Q50 is now in stock in limited numbers at Kearny Mesa INFINITI.
The front fascia is restyled with new headlights, tweaks to the air intakes and grille, and a bit of plastic surgery to harmonize the rear with the front. Something else that’s new is a more differentiated sense of style among the trim levels, which is especially apparent in the Sport and Red Sport 400 trims.
The interior also comes in for some nips and tucks, carrying over some elements — like the wheel and shifter — that we saw earlier on the INFINITI Q60. For this year, the powertrain options (including the turbocharged 2.0-liter engine and 400 horsepower twin-turbocharged V-6 engine) remain the same as what we saw in 2017.
Another new development concerns safety features. The entire suite of active safety features is now bundled in a single package called ProPILOT, which includes Active Lane Control, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, backup collision intervention, a new steer-by-wire system, and lane departure warning/assist features.
This isn’t the same level of new design and features that we’d expect to see when a car enters a new generation. However, it’s also a more comprehensive set of improvements than we’re used to seeing, even for a luxury vehicle. As they do with so much else, INFINITI has truly gone the extra mile with the INFINITI Q50.
