INFINITI cars have always been right at home at the Geneva Motor Show. With its emphasis on luxury — and in recent years, the intersection of luxury and performance — it’s the ideal venue for the latest INFINITI models. This year was no exception, as we saw a striking new version of a car that’s popular with the San Diego and Escondido customers served by Kearny Mesa INFINITI.

That car is the INFINITI Q60 Project Black S. Racing fans may know that the INFINITI brand has close ties to Renault Sport Formula One racing. Project Black S may be a one-off (like the INFINITI Q50 Eau Rouge before it), but there are indications that this is nothing short of an attempt to launch a new performance trim.

The automaker had a hand in developing the hybrid system used in the Renault F1 car. They’ve taken those developments, along with extensive chassis and aerodynamic modifications, and applied the lot of it to the INFINITI Q60 Red Sport 400. While they’ve kept quiet about the hybrid part of the powertrain, the concept vehicle pairs the hybrid drive to its donor car’s V-6.

Net horsepower of 500 hp (or more) would be possible. What’s more, thanks to the hybrid drive system — which the company says is sui generis among road cars — acceleration shows practically no lag. Extensive use of carbon fiber and innovative aerodynamic features give just the right amount of downforce, and should make this car formidable on the track or on the roads around San Diego.

INFINITI cars have always been full of surprises. If you’d like a car that’s designed — and drives — to impress, come to Kearny Mesa INFINITI today. We’re located at 4670 Convoy St in San Diego, CA, and we hope to see you soon!
