A few short news items caught our attention recently, including two changes coming soon to the INFINITI lineup at Kearny Mesa INFINITI. Here’s all the news that’s fit to print from the world of INFINITI cars.

INFINITI QX50 Gets a Vacation: Per Motor Authority, the INFINITI QX50 is going on leave for the 2018 model year. Don’t worry; it will resurface in early to mid-2018 as a 2019 model, previewed by the concept shown earlier this year at the Detroit Auto Show. It will return redesigned and refreshed, powered by the new variable compression INFINITI VC-Turbo engine.

Goodbye to the INFINITI QX60 Hybrid: In a move that surprised nearly nobody, INFINITI lowered the curtain on the INFINITI QX60 Hybrid. Sales for the vehicle had long been sluggish, prompting the company to make it order-only for model year 2017. With the petrol-powered INFINITI QX60 putting up excellent fuel economy numbers, everyone seems to have agreed it was time to put the hybrid out to pasture.

Are You Going to Finish That?: What would happen if a designer imagined a car that never existed in a past that never was? If you’re Alfonso Albaisa, you go ahead and sketch the car. If you’re INFINITI, everyone loves the sketch and devotes their off-hours to making that dream a reality called the INFINITI Prototype 9. Inspired by classic race cars (including INFINITI forerunner Prince Motor Company), it combines retro looks with modern INFINITI design cues and some very advanced technology. Shown at the Monterey Car Week, it features an electric powertrain that propels the 1,962 pound car to 60 miles per hour in 5.5 seconds.

The INFINITI Prototype 9 isn’t likely to ever see the inside of a showroom (we can wish in the meantime). But there’s plenty more to like, all available at your San Diego INFINITI dealership. Kearny Mesa INFINITI is located at 4670 Convoy St in San Diego, CA, or you can call us at (858) 573-1700.
