The 2018 INFINITI QX80 will be hitting the road with a new look. Many of our Carlsbad customers, as well as others looking for a new INFINITI SUV, have been wondering just what the new generation will have in store. That information is coming into focus.
Motor Trend covered the upcoming INFINITI QX80, and the news is mixed. The Monograph concept that showed last month at the New York International Auto Show is very close to what the new version of the INFINITI QX80 will look like. That’s good news because the Monograph concept is gorgeous inside and out.
Even though the looks are new, much of what’s beneath the sheet metal will be tried and true. Per Roland Krueger, President of the INFINITI Motor Company, the underlying architecture — that is to say, the platform on which the SUV rides — remains the same for now. So, too, does the powertrain.
So, if you were wondering (or aren’t familiar with the current generation of the SUV), that means a 5.6-liter V8 engine with 400 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of torque, mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission.
If you were hoping for something more, you may yet be in luck. For one thing, Krueger hinted that a lower-displacement engine, like a turbocharged V6 engine, may be in the works. Something else worth bearing in mind is that carmakers don’t always hew to the traditional product cycle these days, so when the time comes for a mid-cycle refresh, it may come with further changes than what we’re seeing here.
The new INFINITI QX80 will come to Kearny Mesa INFINITI later this year. For more information, or to see any of our new INFINITI SUVs or cars, visit us today at 4670 Convoy St in San Diego or call 858-573-1700.
